Song Descriptions
Here are brief descriptions of the story behind each song, along with a few memorable lines:
- 18 Wheels - This was michaelsongs' 2024 WXPN 24-hour Songwriting Challenge entry, for the prompt "Summertime". It's michaelsongs' take on what it’s like to be a trucker (or other vocation), as “Summer’s not the same for everyone”.
- Sly (An Itch in Time) - This song, written from the fox's perspective, was prompted by maria, when she thought about our time spent trying to trap and rescue local foxes with mange - a painful disease, but it's treatable, that is, IF you can catch the sly fox. But, "hunger has a way of breaking you down" and "the cage keeps calling, from the top of the hill"...
- Because of You - an endearing ode to a partner who supports you and helps you grow beyond even what you could envision for yourself. In this case, it’s about maria, but the lyrics apply to anyone in our lives who support us in this way. This is a fan-favorite, with lots of Oooo-ing-along!
- Where We Belong - michaelsongs' 2025 XPN 24-hour Song Challenge entry, based on the prompt "Belong", this title track paints a picture of two people sharing a bench, "maybe it's just happenstance, maybe it's a true romance", and "maybe this is where we belong".
