🎙️ We're thrilled to announce that michaelsongs was invited by Leesta Vall Studios to cut CUSTOM, BESPOKE, EXCLUSIVE tracks, (just for you!) on their super-cool antique vinyl-cutting lathe!
Order by Sept 1st to get YOUR ONE-OF-A-KIND 7" lathe-cut vinyl record of a michaelsong (or songs!) of your choosing, with a personal message!
Here's how it works:
- This is a very special, custom item, so we are taking orders through Sept 1st for our September 2024 session.
- Ordering window has been EXTENDED! Vinyls now available until they're marked as sold out! Order NOW and receive by Oct 31st, or sooner!
- If you order other merch at the same time, those items will be shipped separately.
- So that your record(s) is properly customized, be sure to note your or the recipeint's preferred name (or handle) on the checkout page.
- No two records will be the same and only one copy of each will be made. Yep, just ONE!
- Your customized track will be studio quality and lathe-cut as it's performed!

Here are direct links and brief descriptions of the story behind each song, along with a few memorable lines:
18 Wheels - This was michaelsongs' 2024 WXPN Songwriting Challenge entry, for the prompt "Summertime". It's michaelsongs' take on what it’s like to be a trucker (or other vocation), as “Summer’s not the same for everyone”.
Because of You - an endearing ode to a partner who supports you and helps you grow beyond even what you could envision for yourself. In this case, it’s about maria, but the lyrics apply to anyone in our lives who support us in this way. This is a fan-favorite, with lots of Oooo’s in the chat!
Better Place - have you ever just wanted to be somewhere better, maybe even be someone different? Well, this song describes that desire, and features a rockin’ flamenco-style guitar solo, that excites the soul as it envisions this “Better Place”!
It's Only Words - who hasn’t said mean things to themselves at one time or another? Well, in this moving tune, michaelsongs aims to turn that around, reminding himself that “It’s Only Words” and hopefully, “we all get to the point of showing more love to ourselves”.

Morning Song - this rockin’ tune is about the challenge of being vulnerable about our state of mind, “knowing that it might lead to a whole lot of unwanted attention and questions I don’t wanna answer”.
Polk County - written during maria&michaelsongs’ personal 10-minute songwriting challenge, the prompt for this track was “Orange Tree”. The story is about someone desperate to move out and move on, but gets stuck on “the hottest day ever seen”, finding themselves and their “pickup truck outta luck, outta gas, outside Polk County”.
Stormchaser - the crowd favorite about two friends who hop in the car to watch a hurricane come in “over the ocean”, complete with an abundance of references to Jersey road trips in the 90’s and the ever-present human desire for adventure and survival: “Wind picking up, raining sideways, lighting flashes… we should head home”.
The Forest - what if you were capable of doing bigger and better things, and everyone saw that but you? Maybe you tried, but “was that your best shot, and now you feel stuck in this spot, for what seems like forever”?
The Line - This song is full of memorable “lines” about the lines of communication and respect in relationships. Some of the lines fans have highlighted include “…it ain’t free, if it’s costing you me”….and, “Well you can’t always do / say what you want.. well, I guess that you can, but there’s a cost… are you willing to pay”?

How are they made?
Leesta Vall's limited edition lathe-cut record releases are made on a modified antique record cutting lathe from the 1950's. Each record is handmade, one at a time, in real time, by a real person.
This completely analog way of making a record was pioneered by Alan Lomax, the original ethnomusicologist who brought us the foundational blues and folk recordings in the American music canon.
Leesta Vall are the only people left making records in this way with a vintage 50s cutting lathe and a tiny studio in Brooklyn.
Each record they cut is completely one-of-a-kind, just an artist's performance directly to vinyl and nothing else.
